451 Fahrenheit is the temperature at which paper burns. Ray Bradbury's 1950's novel Fahrenheit 451 describes a dystopia where information is censored through the destruction of books. In order to perpetuate freedom of thought, the protagonists take decisive action to subvert this process.
The451 does not claim that the technology industry's information channels are dictated by an authoritarian regime. However, economic forces and market dynamics have combined to undermine the imperative for compelling and analytic thinking, spawning a written phenomenon called "content."
We choose the name the451 because we see an analogy between a world that burns books and a world in which journalism is subverted to the imperatives of business.
By applying vigorous research and unrelenting scrutiny, the451 will deliver its audience the independent and unique perspectives which they deserve.
