Adam Needles
Vice President, Client Service Operations, Development and Marketing  |
Adam joined The 451 Group in January 2003 to support the company's growth and repositioning as a new type of analysis organization – one that covers the business of emerging information technology markets and does so in an innovative and client-centric fashion. He is specifically focused on ensuring: 1) that The 451 Group accurately articulates and delivers on its positioning as a firm, building its standing and reputation; 2) that this positioning is consistent across all relationships, marketing programs and service lines; and 3) that as a result of effective positioning, clients receive service that meets the highest levels of quality and relevance.

Adam has provided corporate strategic planning and development counsel, as well as marketing and market intelligence programs, to a broad range of communication, enterprise software, information technology and networking companies. He has worked with publicly traded category leaders such as IBM and Motorola, emerging-growth companies such as Platinum Technology (acquired by Computer Associates), and numerous privately held, early-stage ventures, including Auspice Corp, AUDEX and NanoLab.

Adam was previously a principal with Boston-based management consultancy Alescor Group, and prior to that he was cofounder and Director of Research for private emerging-market analysis group DVG Research, a unit of Daedalus Venture Group, based in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He has also served as a senior associate and director of client market intelligence programs for Citigate Cunningham, a Silicon Valley-based marketing and public relations consultancy. Before working in the technology industry, Adam spent several years on Capitol Hill, serving as a special aide to Massachusetts Congressman Martin Meehan.

Adam has had numerous accomplishments in these past roles. Most recently, he cofounded and profitably grew as a key management team member a private market analysis firm, DVG Research, which covered emerging communication technology markets and venture investments in these companies; he played a key role in positioning three different emerging communication technology companies for successful acquisitions between 1999 and 2001, with one at a 10x return to initial investors; and he repositioned and rebuilt the business model for an early-stage enterprise software company that resulted in revenue growth from $2m to $8m in one year.

Adam is an acknowledged expert in the understanding of emerging communication and information technology markets, with significant experience in the enterprise application, network infrastructure, mobile communication and related software markets. He has been quoted by publications such as Broadband Week, CNet News.com, PC World, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal on a range of topics related to these markets. He has also been selected to speak at industry forums and trade shows, ranging from DSLcon to past DVG Research venture forums, and he has lectured on capital strategies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Adam received a BSFS degree in Science and Technology in International Affairs from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.
