Jim Davis

Jim has covered developments in the digital media industry since 1996 and has been offering his insights on the development of interactive TV and broadband infrastructure with The 451 Group since its debut in April 2000. Jim has completed a research project on how coalescing standards for interactive TV would affect the development of new digital TV services on a worldwide basis. Other research topics include DRM, DAM, MPEG-4 and technologies that affect broadband networks, such as digital video recorders, media routers and service provisioning software.

Among industry engagements, Jim was a panelist speaking on broadband and streaming video technologies at the Entertainment Technology Alliance in February 2002. Jim also served as a judge for The Bandies 2001 awards for broadband and interactive technologies, held in Los Angeles.

Jim came to The 451 Group from CNet's News.com, where he analyzed PC manufacturers such as Apple and Gateway, as well as developments in interactive television and emerging consumer technologies. While with CNet, Jim appeared as a market commentator for CNet radio and TV shows on a variety of topics. He won recognition for his work at CNet from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Computer Press Association.

His career began at The West Sacramento Press and The Capitol Weekly, where he covered topics ranging from legislative and public policy issues to the use of technology in state and local government.

Jim has a BA in English from the University of California and an MA in American Studies from the University of Wyoming.
